I decided for the month of February I wanted to focus on the things for which I am grateful. The weather is cold, the world is crazy, and life is hard right now. But that doesn't mean there aren't good things happening, so I am going to focus on one word per day which will remind me of the many reasons I have for which to be grateful. When I remember, I will also share my word with you, which will hopefully prompt your own word!
My first word, on February 1, was life.
Let me explain my concept. While most people are grateful to be alive generally, it means something much more specific to me. On February 1, 2001, I nearly died. I won't go into the gory details, but I had a very rare medical condition which nearly ended my life. Due to the skillful surgeon who fixed me, I am still here to talk about it. And I am glad. I would not have wanted to miss the last 20 years for anything.
But it isn't always easy. I have health problems that have been difficult to manage ever since, and which it is easy to fixate on. So sometimes I need a reminder that the important thing is that I am alive and still here to complain about the inconveniences of daily living.
I am going to try to post one word each day which has special meaning to me, and which will remind me of things I need to be grateful for. If I need to refocus, hopefully it will be a prompt to think about things differently, and more positively.
I would love it if you would join me in my gratitude attitude this month, and focus on the positives in your life. Your words are personal to you, and there is no need to explain to anyone else. Let's just enjoy the days we have been given, because tomorrows are not guaranteed.
Proverbs 27:1
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.
